Jean-Jacques Justafré received unanimously the jury, the first prize at the National Conservatory of Music of Paris (CNSM) in 1969 and was the winner of the Munich Competition. He also won the first chamber music prize in Salzburg in 1970.

His career as a soloist (horn):

He was principal horn of the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra from 1976 until 2013.

Jean-Jacques Justafré has performed all over the world: concerts in France, where he is a soloist invited by great orchestras under the direction of conductors like Emanuel Krivine, Theodor Gushlbauer, Alain Lombard, Marek Janowski, Leonard Bernstein, Sir Georg Solti , Pierre Boulez, Karl Böhm, Seiji Ozawa, Esa-Pekka Salonen ... but also abroad, in Germany, Japan, China, the United States and Canada.

He is also solicited by soloists like Pierre Amoyal, François René Duchâble, Michel Beroff, Régis Pasquier, Jean-François Heisser, Sviatoslav Richter, etc. to participate in chamber music concerts. He created a work by Michel Levinas: "CALLS".

THE ORCHESTRA DIRECTION

During his career, Jean-Jacques Justafré has directed several orchestras, from the small band to the symphonic ensemble. He founded several Jazz groups: JUST'A 5 and JUST'A 7. In 2005 Paul Mauriat asked him to take over the direction of his orchestra: "The Grand Orchester Paul Mauriat".

Unfortunately Paul Mauriat died on November 3, 2006.

The Paul Mauriat Orchestra and Jean-Jacques Justafré want to pay a last tribute to Paul Mauriat. With the permission of Irene Mauriat it makes a last tour in Japan and Korea. After that, Irène Mauriat decides that "The Grand Orchester Paul Mauriat will never exist again, and suggests to Jean-Jacques Justafré to rename the orchestra under his name" Grand Orchester de Jean-Jacques Justafré "

He has been invited to conduct the following operas: Verdi's "La Traviata" (2009) and Gounod's "Faust" (2010) and has been widely acclaimed by critics and the public.

In August 2018 Michel Legrand personally calls him to take part in his musical ''PEAU D'ÂNE''. For Michel Legrand he accepts. The comedy will be given for 4 months at the Marigny theater from October 2018 to February 2019. Michel Legrand dies during performances on January 26, 2019

 

JAZZ :

Also passionate about jazz, Jean-Jacques Justafré receives in 1990 the victory of the music category "Best disc of contemporary music" for the creation of "Chorus and Interludes for horn" quartet of jazz and orchestra of Marius Constant, (Erato edition) . He participated in concerts with Michel Legrand, François Janneau, Chet Baker ... and created in 1992 the quintet of brass "JUST'A 5". In 2006, he also created "JUST'A7 Band" an original and unpublished training (4 horns, 1 bugle trumpet, 1 guitar, 1 double bass and percussion, CD released in 2009).

Jean-Jacques Justafré played with Ron Carter, Phil Woods, Chet Baker, Oscar Peterson and Milt Jackson vibraphone. He has also collaborated with Don Costa (Sinatra's arranger), Franck Zappa (in Los Angeles studio) and Jerry Lewis. He has worked with jazz musicians such as: Daniel Humair, Jean François Jenny-Clark, Michel Benita, François Mechali, Denis Leloup, Claude Egea, Carine Bonnefoy, Patrice Caratini, Marc Ducret, André Cecarelli, Dizzy Gillespie, N'Guyen Lee, François Jeanneau ... etc.

In parallel with these activities, Jean-Jacques Justafré is regularly invited to Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong, the United States, Canada and Latin America, ... he gives many Master Classes and teaches in various academies. 'summer.

His pedagogical qualities and his desire to transmit also allow him to teach the practice of the horn and orchestral musician in the French Youth Orchestra and in different conservatories.
